Memory cards

Match the card shape and format before you buy.

Vintage digital cameras do not all use the same storage. Check the manual, the card slot label, or the old card that came with the camera. The shape matters as much as the name.

SD / SDHC / SDXC

SD is the familiar postage-stamp card used by many compact cameras. Older cameras may only support standard SD or low-capacity SDHC, so check the manual before buying a large SDXC card.

microSD / TF card

microSD is also called TF card. Some Samsung compact cameras and action-style cameras use it directly, and some SD cameras can use microSD inside a full-size SD adapter. Check the slot before buying.

Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo

The shorter Sony card used by many small Cyber-shot models. Some cameras need a Duo-size card directly; others use it inside a full-size adapter.

Full-size Memory Stick

The long Sony card used by older Cyber-shot cameras. It is not the same physical size as Duo, even when the name looks similar.

A small rounded card often seen in Olympus and Fujifilm cameras. Buy the exact xD type and capacity range recommended by the camera manual.

SmartMedia

A thin, wide legacy card from earlier digital cameras. It needs a reader that explicitly supports SmartMedia; most simple SD readers will not work.

A thicker rectangular card used by some older higher-end compact cameras. Match the camera's supported capacity and avoid forcing the pins.
